Curaçao has been assigned a Medium-High risk score in its most recent National Risk Assessment (NRA 2020). According to Gino Campbell, 23 sectors were evaluated during the assessment. Of these, 26% were classified as High risk, 22% as Medium-High, 17% as Medium, 22% as Medium-Low, and 13% as Low. Campbell, a CPA, CGMA, CAMS, and the head of BZB Accounting, Advisory & Compliance Services on the island, shared these findings.
In November, Campbell will host the Surinamese consultancy firm TABTO Group and its European partner Delta Capita during their visit to Curaçao. On the island, a Bootcamp for professionals specializing in KYC (Know Your Customer) and AML (Anti-Money Laundering) will be held on November 26. This event will take place just days after the KYC/AML Bootcamp 2024 in Suriname, scheduled for Friday, November 22, and Saturday, November 23.
Regarding the necessity in Curaçao, Campbell stated: “A small island like Curaçao, with well-developed and active financial and non-financial sectors, faces an inherent lack of capacity to adequately address the challenges of AML/CFT/CFP compliance. There is a significant need in Curaçao for well-organized platforms to acquire both theoretical and practical knowledge.” This is precisely the area where TABTO Group and Delta Capita aim to provide support.
Campbell is familiar with the activities of the two partners, who have jointly organized the National Compliance Congress (NCC) in Suriname for several years. He has contributed twice by giving masterclasses on the gaming industry. As a former director of the Gaming Control Board in Curaçao, Campbell expects the expertise, professionalism, and solutions provided by these partners to meet Curaçao’s needs, particularly through training and improving overall compliance with laws and regulations.
