SPA expects to make a breakthrough in 2025

The Surinamese Labor Party (SPA) expects to make a breakthrough in Suriname’s political landscape in 2025. The political organization has observed a lack of integrity in leadership and aims to present the people with good leaders, says chairperson Joyce Williams in an interview with ATV during the program Sranan Tori.
The issue of leadership comes on top of the many other concerns that the public deals with daily. When asked whether the SPA will form alliances leading up to the elections, the chairperson mentioned that discussions are underway with another party and individuals. However, nothing has been finalized yet.
Talks are also being held with parties that have already made their positions clear, with a focus on post-election collaboration. The possibility of cooperation is being explored. Williams emphasized that negotiations should not wait until after the elections, following any seat victories, but instead, things must be clarified beforehand.
According to the SPA chairperson, it is advisable for parties to reach a realistic compromise when implementing policies. They should avoid making populist proposals and instead develop plans with a sustainable focus. Williams emphasized that the SPA considers itself a social-democratic party, meaning it is committed to reducing inequality in society.
The money the country earns should be distributed fairly, with the SPA prioritizing the people and fostering their development. Williams expressed her happiness that the country will benefit from the oil and gas sector in 2028. She noted that there are concerns shared by the public regarding how the revenue will be used.
According to the SPA chairperson, it is crucial that the profits benefit the people. Funds should be reserved for financing future developments.
