Bronto Somohardjo is no longer the Minister of Home Affairs. The first vice-chairman of the Pertjajah Luhur (PL) has made his portfolio available to President Chan Santokhi. The President will further deliberate on the resignation of the politician.
PL chairman Paul Somohardjo, who supported his son, emphasized that the PL will remain part of the coalition for the time being.
The PL chairman told journalists after the meeting with the President that there is no reason to leave the coalition. Only if the Ministry of Home Affairs were to be taken away from the PL would the situation change. In light of these developments, the party will hold an emergency meeting with its structures tomorrow evening.
In his initial response, the former Minister of Home Affairs stated that he decided to step down due to the unhealthy situation that arose from the ongoing tug-of-war between him and Vice President Ronnie Brunswijk, who is also the leader of ABOP. In order not to be an obstacle to the governance of the country and the organization of the upcoming elections, Somohardjo believes that making his portfolio available was the right decision.
The former minister did not wish to further comment on his relationship with the vice President. The focus is now entirely on the party, which is preparing for the elections.
