Minister Steven Mac Andrew of Labour, Employment and Youth Affairs (AW and J) stated that his ministry is facing a shortage of funds, causing delays in the payment of vacation workers. Although it was expected that payments would be made at the beginning of October, they have yet to be processed. The minister made this statement prior to the weekly Council of Ministers (RvM) meeting.
Mac Andrew hopes that the remaining young workers will receive their payments by next week at the latest. Cooperation from the Ministry of Finance and Planning is crucial to arranging the finances needed for these payments.
The minister understands the frustration among the young workers and emphasized that he is doing everything possible to compensate them as soon as possible. He pointed out that administrative delays are a significant cause of the payment issues. “The focus is now on expediting the process so that the young workers can quickly receive their compensation,” Mac Andrew said.
