A government led by the National Democratic Party (NDP) will always guarantee the basic needs of the people. It will never happen that children cannot attend school or go without food. Ultimately, it will be up to the people to decide whether the party regains power, says senior party official André Misiekaba.
He observes that, unfortunately, the society currently lacks these basic needs. If it is necessary, and if it turns out that people are going to bed hungry, the government will even borrow money to meet these essential needs. Misiekaba spoke on Bakana Tori via LIM FM.
The senior party member also pointed out that chairperson Jenny Simons constantly emphasizes that the country should never be without the most essential provisions. For example, he would make ten fewer trips as President to ensure that children do not die in hospitals due to poor healthcare. Misiekaba stressed that he was not engaging in propaganda, but the community knows that his party has always been committed to these issues.
The politician also addressed the mistakes the NDP made when it was in power. One of these mistakes, according to him, was the arrogance after securing 26 seats. Announcing in advance that a certain number of seats would be won is, in his view, a form of disrespect towards the people, who ultimately decide which party will hold the majority. Furthermore, many issues were not addressed strongly enough, and problems were often overlooked.
After evaluation, it also became clear that the previous government should have been more cautious with the implementation of the social program. Issues like corruption should never again be tolerated, he asserted. Change must come, or else Suriname will never improve, according to him.
There are plenty of good programs and proposals, but why are people still dissatisfied with the current state of the country 49 years later? Misiekaba points to the system, which he believes is an obstacle to further development.
