Minister Kenneth Amoksi of Justice and Police (Juspol) stated that he is aware of an incident involving a man who was abused in a detention center. This man had been arrested after viral footage showed him assaulting his mother. The minister announced that immediate action has been taken against those involved in this abuse.
According to Amoksi, detainees filmed the incident, indicating that the control over access to mobile phones for detainees is not entirely secure. The minister emphasized that smuggling of phones is often facilitated by security personnel themselves, which poses a serious concern for the safety within the detention center.
Minister Amoksi has indicated that charges will be brought against the detainees who filmed the abuse. The detainee involved has since been transferred to another detention center. Various measures have been taken to stabilize the situation, including more frequent cell inspections.
The minister reported that, on average, more than nine mobile phones, as well as cables and chargers, are confiscated during these inspections. This underscores the need for stricter oversight and measures to ensure safety in the detention centers.
If staff members are found to be complicit in providing phones, actions will be taken against them. For now, the investigation aims to determine how the recording of the abuse was made and who filmed it.
So far, it is still unclear if any officials were involved in this incident. The investigation remains a crucial step in clarifying the situation and implementing appropriate actions.
