Government increases housing renovation subsidy to SRD 100,000

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing has increased the subsidy for home renovations. The amount, which was previously SRD 54,000, has now been raised to SRD 100,000. Yesterday, several beneficiaries received their subsidy approvals at the Office of the Vice President. The subsidies were handed over by Vice President Ronnie Brunswijk.
The renovation subsidy can be applied for at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing and is intended for low-income individuals. This subsidy assists people in renovating or completing their homes, particularly in finishing the roof or roofing. Vice President Brunswijk explained to the media on Wednesday that SRD 54,000 was insufficient for renovations or roofing, which is why the subsidy amount was increased.
In June of this year, a previous group had already received their subsidy approvals. The beneficiaries on Wednesday are individuals who applied when the amount was still SRD 54,000. Along with them, those eligible for SRD 100,000 were supposed to receive their approvals. However, to avoid confusion, it was decided to invite this latter group at a later date.
The funds will be deposited into the beneficiaries’ accounts once all formalities are completed. Minister Ines Pané of Social Affairs and Housing was also present at the ceremony. It was previously indicated that this subsidy is not related to the Affordable Housing Project (AHP) or the National Housing Program (LWBP).
