Minister Krishna Mathoera of Defense said, prior to the weekly Council of Ministers meeting, that the military site Concordia is not fully operational. The location was temporarily used for storing ammonium nitrate after it had to be relocated from residential areas for safety reasons.
However, the storage at Concordia is brief, lasting only one to two days, as companies themselves lack suitable storage space. The minister assured that this temporary storage is under strict supervision.
Although plans have been drawn up for the renovation of Defense buildings, these projects are currently not a priority due to more urgent projects and limited financial resources. A tender process has taken place, and Mathoera hopes for swift approval to proceed with the implementation.
The renovation of the barracks also requires attention, and once the budget is definitively approved, Defense can begin the work. The minister added that the ongoing rain has further damaged existing buildings, making renovation even more urgent.
