The reshuffling of ministers shortly before the elections indeed raises questions about the effectiveness of new appointments. Minister Parmanand Sewdien emphasizes that new ministers often do not have enough time to settle into their roles in such a short period, which can affect the effectiveness of their policies.
The situation at the Ministry of Home Affairs, following the departure of Bronto Somohardjo, adds an extra layer of uncertainty, especially with the President currently on a state visit to Aruba and Curaçao. The minister made this statement before the start of the weekly Council of Ministers (RvM) meeting.
Upon his return, the President will consult with the chairpersons of both ABOP and Pertjajah Luhur (PL) to discuss the course of action. For the time being, Minister Steven Mac Andrew of Labor, Employment, and Youth Affairs (AW and J) will act as the interim Minister of Home Affairs.
Regarding farmers, it is encouraging to hear that the financial resources they have long awaited finally seem to be forthcoming. Government support is crucial, especially given the challenges facing the agricultural sector due to climate change. It is hoped that payments will be made quickly and smoothly so that farmers can resume their activities and further protests can be avoided.
